Norway man rescued after climbing into public toilet

A Norwegian man learned his lesson about playing hero when he entered a portable toilet to rescue a friend’s cellphone and became trapped among the feces.

Larsen got stuck inside the sewage tank for an hour after he was unable to fit back through the toilet from underneath, according to Norway’s Drammens Tidende newspaper.

The tank is reportedly only emptied once a year. It contains a large tank underneath which will be cleaned once in a year.

He ultimately chose to contact the fire brigade to help end his ordeal in the small town of Drammen outside Oslo. “We sent a four-man crew with a chainsaw and they cut open the front of the [plastic] toilet”, fire brigade spokeswoman Tina Brock said. A man was stuck in an outhouse in Åssiden, Drammen. The fire personnel had to demolish the toilet. “It’s now out of service”, said Kristin Rødnes, from the Vestviken emergency central.

Firefighters had to break the toilet to rescue Larsen after the young man spent an hour stuck in the confined area.

He was treated in hospital for injuries to his upper arms, and was given antibiotics.

“I was down there for one hour and it was very unpleasant”. Larsen described the ordeal as “damn disgusting” and the “worst” situation he had experienced. He was apparently also bit by the animals creeping beneath his feet. “Now my body hurts, and I will go home and get some rest”.

The phone, sadly, was never recovered from the toilet.
