Fiorentina deny approach for Chelsea target Alonso

Chelsea have been linked with a surprise move for Fiorentina left-back Marcos Alonso, according to Italian sports journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

The left-back then enjoyed a six-month loan spell with Sunderland in 2014 where he helped the club avoid relegation before returning to Fiorentina where he’s established himself as a regular starter. The Viola are on the lookout for more signings than departures and are on the verge of resigning Stevan Jovetic from Inter Milan.

“We want to keep our best players and strengthen our squad and we’re going to try to put together the best squad possible for the coach’s demands”, Freitas said when asked specifically about the Montenegrin.

He further added that as a club, the goal was to not let go of the best players – something that Fiorentina have maintained throughout the summer.

As we enter the final 48 hours of the transfer market, there are bound to be numerous reports and nearly as many denials from club officials – sometimes earnest, sometimes bureaucratic. The Spain global has found himself among the substitutes for Chelsea’s opening three Premier League games, and despite a match-turning cameo against Watford, his future at Stamford Bridge has been a topic of discussion.

Manager Antonio Conte recently claimed that the club will “have a problem” trying to sign their targets.
