Manchester United will be my last club in Europe, says Bastian Schweinsteiger

With the transfer windows for both MLS and Chinese Super League, been shut for some time, we could see Schweinsteiger wallowing in the fringes of the United squad.

Manchester United Manager Jose Mourinho gave his weekly press conference today ahead of tomorrow’s clash against Hull City.

Schweinsteiger made 31 appearances for United in all competitions last season but missed a large portion of 2016 because of injury. Les Parisiens are holding out on a £25m package for Matuidi, and it is thought that the Old Lady will eventually finalize a deal for the Frenchman’s services.

The German midfielder, considered surplus to requirements and exiled to the reserves by the Portuguese manager, has insisted that he will not join another club in Europe.

“I am quite surprised that Mr Rummennigge is not here”.

“I’m not saying it’s impossible, I’m saying its very hard because we have made a decision made about [Paul] Pogba, [Ander] Herrera, [Morgan] Schneiderlin, [Marouane] Fellaini and [Michael] Carrick”. I’m not saying it’s impossible, I’m saying that it’s very hard. These are the kind of decisions every club makes. Not just me, everyone does. “He gave his last statement, which he is completely free to make, in an objective way, like he did”.

Schweinsteiger can not move further afield than Europe just yet because the transfer window in the United States for the MLS closed on August 3, while the Chinese Premier League window – another potential destination – closed on July 15.

“I think it’s very hard to happen”.

“No-one is coming and 23 players are more than enough”.

Mourinho is not expecting any late drama in the transfer market, unless a club come in for Schweinsteiger, with fellow midfielder Juan Mata expected to stay, even though he is another senior player who is no longer guaranteed regular first-team football.

Rio Ferdinand reckons Jose Mourinho is bringing back the fear factor to Manchester United.

“This is all I can say about my current situation”.

On Schweinsteiger’s recent statement, he said: “I can not answer for him”.

“I will be ready, if the team needs me”.

United came fifth in the Premier League under Louis van Gaal last season, and Mourinho added: “I think it’s going to be a very hard season for everyone but I think the traditional top teams had a bad experience a year ago that they don’t want to repeat”.

Meanwhile, the United boss has welcomed a Europa League group stage draw that will pit his team against Feyenoord, Fenerbahce and Ukrainian side Zorya Luhansk.
