Hull City 0 Manchester United 1: The match in a minute

Mourinho’s United side secured their third successive victory of the new Premier League season at Hull City on Saturday evening – Marcus Rashford scoring an injury-time victor – and go into the global break joint top of the fledgling table. “That’s showing in the players and it’s maybe lacked over the last couple of years”, Rooney said.

Mourinho insisted it would be “very difficult” to afford the midfielder any playing time in 2016-17 but while he is on the books Schweinsteiger is ready to step into the breach should the need arise.

Sky Sports are this evening reporting that the 23-year-old is having a medical at Hull City ahead of a £1m move to the Premier League side.

But Mourinho, who has guided United to their best Premier League start for five years, claims that Rashford will gain much more from his week with the Under-21s than if he had reported for duty with Allardyce’s squad.

People were falling over in the excitement – with United midfielder Marouane Fellaini reportedly rushing to the aid of a female fan who was crushed against the advertising board.

The Tigers vice-chairman Ehab Allam revealed in his programme notes that this could be the club’s last game with the Allam family as owners and he hoped a takeover deal with a Chinese consortium would be completed during the global break. We tried and tried and got it. “He’s an important player for us”.

“I haven’t played a game yet (this season), so I don’t know how the lungs will hold up”.

Speaking ahead of Germany’s friendly with Finland, which marks Schweinsteiger’s worldwide farewell, he said: “My absolute dream would be to play for Manchester United and to help them with their goals”.

“I was telling them at half-time that on Wednesday on the training ground they were most intense than on the pitch in the first half today”, he explained.

Leicester and Arsenal, the top-two teams last season, racked up their first wins at the third attempt.
