The Coast Guard and NOPD said a woman was rescued by a good Samaritan.

The plane will be pulled out of Lake Pontchartrain, according to Capt. Edwin Holmes, who says there should be more information then.

Two men missing after a Cessna plane crashed in Lake Pontchartrain on Saturday (Aug. 28) were found inside the wreckage as it was removed from the water Tuesday, the New Orleans Fire Department said.

“There happened to be a boat right near there that scooped her up”, Morris said.

Police say a private yacht rescued a woman who was taken to a hospital after the crash, which occurred shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday.

The pilot and one passenger aboard a small plane that crashed near Lakefront Airport on Saturday night are presumed to have died when the craft plunged into Lake Pontchartrain, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. Her condition was not available Sunday.

The crane, operated by a salvage contractor, hoisted the plane onto the barge after divers first attached cables to the wreckage while it was submerged, New Orleans Fire Department spokesman Gregory Davis said. Along with the Coast Guard’s vessels, the police department’s dive team has been using sonar technology to aid in the search.

According to a statement, Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report from a good Samaritan at 8:20 p.m. of a Cessna training flight crashing into the water.
