A pair of pants with waist size 20-24 is priced at Rs 250 and an additional Rs 10 for every additional two inches. I have come to buy the new uniform.
According to sources, around 7 lakh pants are to be provided in first phase to the members of RSS. “No one is excluded from this”.
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s new khaki trousers were delivered today at its shop that sells uniforms near its headquarters in Nagpur, Maharashtra.
The new full trousers – costing around Rs 250 – have been tailored by an RSS regular stylist, in Akola, Rajasthan, and his 40-strong team plans to send around 50,000 pieces to Nagpur by Dassehra (Vijayadashmi) to be celebrated in October this year. According to a decision taken in the Akhil Bharatiya Pratinidhi Sabha (ABPS), the new pants will make way for the decades-old loose-fitting shorts while the rest of the uniform will remain the same.
The RSS started selling the new uniform at its premises in Nagpur Monday. There are, however, many places where RSS uniforms are stitched on bulk orders.
For the last three decades, the RSS workers have attended Vjiayadashami rallies in “purna ganvesh” of half-pants, white short, black topi, brown belt, black shoes and lathi.

In 1925, when the party was formed the leaders adopted khaki shirts, shorts, leather belts, black shoes and a black cap as its uniform. Initially, we used to wear leather belts, but later it was changed after a Jain saint objected to it. The next change was a decade later in 1940, under the leadership of K B Hedgewar when the khaki shirt was replaced with a white shirt as their uniform bore resemblance to the British army uniform. Similarly, we used half trousers, and now we have changed the length to full keeping in mind the changing times.
