Police trial prototype facial recognition system at Notting Hill Carnival

A 14-year-old boy was arrested on Warmington Road in Kensington and Chelsea on Sunday on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and a 15-year-old was rushed to hospital.

The majority were for drug offences (169), followed by weapons possession (90), assault (42) and use or supply of psychoactive substances (38).

Police made 454 arrests and four people were wounded in stabbings during the annual celebration.

A 15-year-old boy was critically injured in a stabbing in Wornington Road on Sunday.

A man also approached officers at Kensal Rise tube station, telling them that he had been stabbed, before leaving the scene.

Children in fancy dress and face paint claimed the best view of the parade by sitting on parents’ shoulders, and some even joined the dancers following the parade floats.

Around 1,000 small nitrous oxide canisters and associated paraphernalia were seized in a number of separate operations.

Ken Marsh, chairman of the Metropolitan Police Federation, said the event was being “hijacked” by troublemakers.

The investigations have been referred to trading standards officers.

As the sun set on Monday evening, carnival-goers kept on dancing.

Revellers watched the colourful parade from balconies on Ladbroke Grove while people of all ages took to the streets to celebrate.
