Chiefs move Houston to PUP list, place Mauga on IR
Houston underwent knee surgery to fix his non-functioning ACL in February and is expected to meet with Dr. James Andrews during Kansas City’s bye week in early October for further evaluation. “He needs a little bit more time”.

Houston will meet with his orthopedic surgeon, Dr. James Andrews, during the team’s bye in week four, according to Burkholder.
“We’ll reassess the situation then”, Burkholder said. The Chiefs at the time gave a range for Houston’s return for anywhere between six and 12 months. With Houston now sidelined for the next several weeks, the Chiefs will likely ask third-year outside linebacker Dee Ford to start in his place and opposite veteran Tamba Hali, who is also coming off offseason knee surgery.
Mauga will miss the entire season after he sustained a labral tear in his hip in August. Burkholder confirmed Mauga suffered a labral tear in his hip and will have surgery September 8.
The Chiefs also waived Mitch Matthews, getting them to 76 players by Tuesday’s deadline.

Those developments, along with the waiver of fullback Trey Millard and a roster exemption for safety Eric Berry, put the Chiefs’ active roster at 75.
