Jaya announces ‘Amma’ Environment Park in Chennai
Chennai: Aiming to equip the mental and physical health of people of all age groups in villages, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today announced Amma Parks and Amma Gyms in rural areas.

The latest in a series of initiatives under brand “Amma”, Tamil Nadu government will set up 500 “Amma Gyms” for youth and develop as many “Amma Parks” for the public in rural areas.
Another 68 lakh fruit-bearing tree saplings are to be planted in government lands, government and private institutions, schools and colleges at a cost of Rs. 555 crore this year, she said.
The “Amma Gyms” will cost Rs. 50 crore and “Amma Parks” would cost Rs. 100 crore, the Hindu reported.
The state government plans to implement other initiatives such as replacing street lights with LEDs to bring down the electricity bill of the government. While Rs. 300 crore has been earmarked for converting about 8.22 lakh street lamps into LED lamps, another Rs. 300 crore has been earmarked for renovating about 1,200 minor irrigational resources across the State.
She also announced that infrastructure facilities at Coimbatore industrial estates would be upgraded at a cost of Rs 50 lakh.
Chennai: The “Amma” brand under which several welfare schemes like the Amma canteen, Amma mineral water, Amma cement and Amma pharmacies were launched is getting bigger. For the benefit of special children, the government will provide I-pads with a special software to 416 beneficiaries to help address their communication issues, Jayalalithaa said.? In Chennai, one “Amma Environment Park” will be set up at Tondiarpet.?The Rs 2 crore worth park will include children’s park, lawn, play area and environment awareness boards, she said.??She also proposed allocating Rs 28 crore towards breathing new life into the Parithipattu Lake at Avadi near here.
