“I think it’s a bad thing, and you know, maybe he should find a country that works better for him”.

Kaepernick has received enormous backlash over his move, but Legend is defending him, arguing that it’s time to update the national anthem to something more patriotic and less mired in the country’s racist history. At the same time, I think it’s a duty of ours as leaders, especially with young kids, to make a good, proper announcement if we feel the need to, and I think that’s what he’s doing.

Kaepernick said he sat during the anthem before all three preseason games this year and will continue to do so as a form of protest for what he says is the oppression “of black people and people of color”. “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder”. Kelly said the reason is that they want to get Colin Kaepernick more snaps due to his absence the first two games.

Most recent polls show Trump trailing Clinton, both nationally and in key battlegrounds.

Isner said he respected Kaepernick’s aim of drawing attention to racial inequality in America, but thought the National Football League player’s refusal to stand for the Star Spangled Banner prior to a preseason game was a poor means of protest.

According to USA Today, he has no intention of standing during the national anthem until the country changes. It is an opportunity to honor our country and reflect on the great liberties we are afforded as its citizens.

The White House also added to the debate, saying Mr Kaepernick’s protest was “objectionable” but that he had a right to express his views.
