Heroic ITV news presenter Tom Bradby tries to save suicidal man’s life

ITV’s political editor has described with “shock and anger” the moment he tried to save a Greek man from apparently killing himself, while customs officials did nothing.

‘Am shaking with shock and anger. Bradby wrote the following on his Twitter account.

He told followers: “Just watched an elderly man commit suicide in Greece by driving his auto off the harbour wall in Rafina”.

Bradby explained on Twitter that he unsuccessfully attempted to rescue the man from his vehicle, writing that he “dived in, tried to help [and] couldn’t get him out”.

‘So much for the Greek holiday trade being business as usual’.

‘The rest watched, ‘ he said.

Suicide rates in Greece are reported to have risen by more than a third since the country started to implement tough austerity measures in 2010.

Tom Bradby posted a series of tweets detailing the horrific incident at the port of Rafina in Greece on Sunday.

Bradby, 48, has been announced as the new host of ITV’s News at Ten.

He was appointed political editor in 2005, presents a weekly topical chat show, The Agenda, and anchored the channel’s coverage of this year’s General Election.
