Korea says United Nations condemnation of missile tests ‘provocation’
North Korea is barred under United Nations resolutions from any use of ballistic missile technology, but has carried out several launches following its fourth nuclear test in January.

North Korea on Saturday threatened to aim fire at the lighting equipment used by “provocative” USA and South Korean troops at a truce village inside the demilitarized zone that divides the two Koreas. The 15-member council in a press statement “strongly condemned” the tests, the latest of which was a submarine-launched ballistic missile carried out toward Japan on Wednesday.
Foreign and defense ministers of c and the United States intend to hold a meeting in October to discuss countermeasures against the North Korean nuclear threat, South Korean Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se said Sunday. If you would like to discuss another topic, look for a relevant article.
“North Korean human rights is an urgent humanitarian issue, as well as the founding stone for a peaceful peninsular unification”, Park said, urging related organizations to give wider publicity to human rights within the reclusive state.
“As we’ve said, North Korea continuously threatens provocations through official media, and unofficially there have been signs of threats, and the warning is a follow-up step to that”, Unification Ministry spokesman Jeong Joon-hee said at a news briefing.
Acquiring the ability to launch missiles from submarines would be an alarming development because missiles fired from submerged vessels are harder to detect in advance.
North Korea has threatened retaliation for these exercises, which it views as a rehearsal for invasion by the USA and other adversaries.
A proven SLBM system would take North Korea’s nuclear strike threat to a new level, allowing deployment far beyond the Korean peninsula and a “second-strike” capability in the event of an attack on its military bases.
Regarding the North’s ballistic missile launch last week, which was an apparent protest against Seoul and Washington’s joint military drill, President Park warned that the survival of the nation and the people will be at risk if Pyongyang manages to load a nuclear warhead on its ballistic missiles.
