The resurgent New York Mets aim for their first series sweep in almost two months when they host the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a three-game set.
He exited with soreness in his left knee, a problem area that has sidelined him twice before this season.
Phillies: RHP Jake Thompson (1-3, 9.78 ERA) opens a three-game series against NL East-leading Washington, his fifth major league start.
“With the way all of a sudden we’ve played here in the last four or five days, it took a little air out of the balloon”, manager Terry Collins said.
Cabrera was running to first base after he bunted and then collided with Phillies’ first baseman Tommy Joseph as the throw came in (it was high; Cabrera was safe).
Ellis drove Robles’ fourth pitch over Curtis Granderson’s head in left field, scoring Joseph and Altherr with his first hit for the Phillies.
Ellis struck out and grounded out in his first two at-bats.
Robles hit pinch-hitter Peter Bourjos with a pitch with the bases loaded, forcing in another run. He opened his season with six scoreless innings at NY but was reached for five runs (two earned) in 4 1/3 frames in a rematch 10 days later. The 24-year-old right-hander had struggled of late, allowing 19 runs and 25 hits over his previous 16 1/3 innings. Cabrera appeared to twist awkwardly after the collision. He stayed in the game to advance to second on Kelly Johnson’s single, but left after another visit from the training staff.
Cabrera is 14-for-32 (.438) with four doubles, three homers and nine RBI in eight games since returning from the disabled list August 19. After crouching down in pain behind home plate, he went to first base.
