Chromebook Pixel 2 not available anymore in Google store

With a replacement created in conjunction with HP widely available, Google is discontinuing (via Venture Beat) the Chromebook Pixel 2. But now, Google has chose to discontinue production on the laptop and you will not be able to purchase it anymore on their online store. It launched two models – a $1,299 and a $999 model – the latter has already been discontinued earlier this year in April.

“We’re committed to the Pixel program but we don’t have plans to restock the Pixel 2”, a Google spokesperson told the site. This is something pretty desirable in a laptop nowadays, especially in light of Google’s announcement that it will be bringing the Play Store to Chrome OS. Featuring specs far beyond that of a standard Chromebook that you could buy for a couple hundred of dollars, the price was no laughing matter, with the Pixel 2 starting at $1300. It’s possible that Google intends to refocus the Pixel brand around Android rather than Chrome OS, given that Android will soon have a very desktop-y windowed multitasking mode. The laptop began running low in stock all over the world and was questioned to ever be restocked again, however Google has confirmed that no plans to begin manufacturing the laptop again are present.
