A week ago, Heron told Jeff Borzello of ESPN that he wanted to visit all of the schools in his top five.

“I had the chance to meet everyone on campus and I just loved the comfort level here”, Heron said on the phone from the campus Sunday afternoon.

“He does a good job developing guys that are two-guards and wings like I am”, Heron said. He had other college visits scheduled.

“The feeling I got when I saw the team and how they interacted”, he added. However, with Heron committed elsewhere the Johnnies can likely say goodbye to the dream of signing Alkins as well.

The 6-foot-5 shooting guard, averaged 22 points and 5.3 rebounds as a junior at Sacred Heart High School in Waterbury, Conn. “The SEC is a great conference with great physical play”.

Heron originally committed to Pittsburgh, primarily due to the influence of then assistant Barry “Slice” Rohrssen.

Heron, ranked No. 1 in the state of Connecticut and No. 6 nationally at his position by ESPN, said in July that his top six was Auburn, Alabama, SMU, Mississippi State, St. John’s, Maryland and Marquette.

After de-commiting, Heron took visits to Marquette and Alabama and had a trip set up for Mississippi State later this month.

Heron, who is a left-handed shooter, plays his summer basketball for the New Renaissance New York AAU Program, may provide Pearl with an instant scorer on the perimeter at any of the three guard spots in the Tigers lineup. He has led the Hearts to back-to-back state championships. Heron said Pearl and associate head coach Chuck Person prioritized him.
