“Just as important, we understand that to defeat terrorists, we must uphold, not betray, the democratic principles we cherish and they abhor”, Kerry told labour activists and union leaders after the talks with Hasina.
After his brief stop in Bangladesh, Kerry will travel to India later Monday for the seventh meeting of the U.S. -India strategic dialogue, which seeks to improve security and well as economic and development ties between the nations.
The Dialogue will be co-chaired by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman along with Kerry and US Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker.
When the prime minister asked him about the source of funds and arms of the IS, Kerry said the militant group raises revenue by selling oil from the part of Iraq and Syria under their control, according to Karim.
“These are issues to be disclosed gradually”, he said.
Kerry emphasized that “no country is immune from terrorism”.
The Forum during its meeting held in January, 2015 and September, 2015 had submitted comprehensive recommendation covering various issues across the sectors, which the governments on both sides took into account and encouraged more business to business exchanges.
It was Kerry’s first official visit to the country, and came in the wake of terror in Dhaka after jihadis slaughtered hostages at a restaurant.
ISIS has claimed responsibility for the July 1 attack on the upscale cafe in Dhaka in which 22 people were killed and pictures of the attackers holding ISIS flags were posted online.
Kerry arrived in Dhaka in the morning to hold meetings with the government officials, opposition leaders and civic actors almost a month after Islamist militants killed at least 20 civilians including 17 foreigners at a restaurant in the capital.
Kerry’s visit to the country came on a day Bangladesh police raided a hideout of the homegrown outlawed militant outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen and shot dead its commander, who was involved in an attack on a temple and a bid to kill an Italian priest a year ago, along with his aide.

While talking about the ongoing anti-IS drive in the Middle East, he said the IS has been cornered in the region due to the operation and many IS terrorists are now returning home on the face of the attack.
