Theresa May rules out general election or second Brexit referendum
The Cabinet will meet at the Prime Minister’s country retreat Chequers to discuss the next steps in the process amid speculation that Mrs May will implement Article 50 – triggering the two-year period leading to Brexit – without seeking the backing of Parliament.

Mr Davies said that the public believed the vote was to stay or leave the European Union and the result should be respected. “I have no doubt they will”, Davis said.
Her aides are clear that her decision will overcome any divergence of views in her cabinet, which like the wider ruling Conservative Party, is divided over the degree of Brexit – whether Britain should leave the EU’s single market to ensure control over migration or find some compromise.
It emerged yesterday that MPs from all parts of the United Kingdom could be sidelined by May, who has received legal advice than she can proceed with Brexit without a vote at Westminster. The Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond reportedly favours staying in the single market whereas Liam Fox and David Davis, who will lead the Brexit negotiations with European Union leaders, think Britain should leave so it can control its borders.
“The Prime Minister has been very clear about Brexit meaning Brexit”, she said.
The prime minister is due to host minsters at her country residence this week, demanding “action plans” from each department about how they can make the most of Brexit, according to the Sunday Times and Sunday Telegraph.
“It will not be triggered this year as the government needs time to shape Britain’s exit objectives first”, May said.
If the parliament sits for debate and vote, there are chances of preventing the process of exit of Britain from U.S. as most of the members of Parliament’s lower House of Commons had earlier campaigned against Brexit including May.
The UK has two years in which to formally negotiate its way out of the European Union once Article 50 is triggered.
The PM has resisted calls to take advantage of disarray in Labour ranks caused by the resignation of most of Jeremy Corbyn’s shadow cabinet and Owen Smith’s leadership challenge.
“She’s [May] looked at the numbers and she knows she might not win a vote in parliament”, Smith said.

He hinted that any deal for Britain will be more cordial and go further than agreements with other European countries, such as Norway and Switzerland, which had not been EU members. “She hasn’t set out what Brexit means and she doesn’t want to be held to account on vital issues such as stripping away workers’ rights and environmental safeguards”.
