Mesut Ozil set for first Arsenal start of season at Watford

The Swiss global has featured in all three of Arsenal’s Premier League matches so far and played the full 90 minutes in Saturday’s 3-1 win at Watford. The Gunners manager has started the England worldwide in the first three matches and set up a goal for Alexis Sanchez in the north London club’s 3-1 win over Watford.

Nevertheless, the move will give Chambers the chance to play regular football and continue his development, with a view of potentially becoming a starter for Arsenal in the future. “He likes to sit, give good long balls and be available with the centre-backs”.

It was only the Germany international’s 21st goal for the north London club since joining them from Real Madrid in 2013 – and Wenger admitted that for a player widely regarded as world-class it is an area he can still improve.

Wenger’s point is certainly a valid one. “We had two hard away games but today I believe we had a good solid performance”, Wenger said.

Worldwide breaks have been particularly unkind to Arsenal in the past and losing another key player to injury over the next week would be a huge blow.

Asked if Ozil’s presence had made a difference for the Gunners, Wenger replied, “Especially in the first half”.

“We tried already in December past year”, Wenger replied when asked when he decided he wanted to sign Xhaka. It is more reassuring when a player has already played overseas somewhere. He was captain at his young age at Monchengladbach, which is not a small club, so he has leadership qualities. We saw he has a good engine, good stature, he is good in the air and has a good balance in his game, he has a good short ball and a good long ball.

“Arsene couldn’t imagine that anyone would criticise him openly on television, never mind a former Arsenal player”.
