Apple is expanding the capacity of its iCloud Drive storage service.

Ahead of the launch of its new products on September 9, Apple has announced a new iCloud tier that offers users 2TB of storage at Rs 1,300 a month.

According to The Verge, this pricing is slightly more than Microsoft’s 1 TB plan for $6.99 a month and similar to Google Drive’s terabyte pricing that starts at $9.99 a month for 1 TB.

The previous largest tier, 1TB, was roughly 8x larger than the largest iPhone device storage tier – 128GB: (1024/128 = 8).

It is clear Apple wants steadfast and loyal users to hit the ground running in terms of apps and services and has unveiled a new 2TB plan, its largest plan yet.

Apple’s iPad Pro device already offers 256GB of storage, but that capacity is very rare in modern smartphones.

Users looking to upgrade their iCloud plan can do so from today.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 7, perhaps its closest competitor, only comes with 64GB of storage, although this can be expanded with a microSD card. Google Drive offers 1TB for a monthly $9.99/£7.63 fee, or £91.56 a year.

Plus, this increased storage option may also lend credibility to the rumor that Apple may soon release a new iPhone with 256GB of storage. Consumers still have the option of getting 5GBs of storage for free.

Before iPhone 7 launch Apple adds a new 2 TB iCloud storage option for $19,99 per month
