Fifteen more cases of Zika virus in S’pore
Inspectors from the National Environment Agency visited homes in the suburban district where all the cases – mostly foreign construction workers – were reported, to check for potential breeding sites.

The GuocoLand construction site, where the infected workers were found, remained closed on Tuesday morning, according to a Reuters photographer at the scene.
Almost all have recovered but nine more suspected cases of Zika virus infection – both citizens and foreign workers -were reported today by two community clinics, local media said.
Singapore, which had initially reported 41 locally transmitted Zika cases over the weekend, confirmed another 15 cases on Monday (29 August) – bringing the tally up to 56.
The state Department of Health announced that the new travel-related cases included five pregnant women.
Contractors in protective gear carried out insecticide fogging in public places, pumping a mosquito-killing mist over large areas on the ground.
In May, a 48-year-old male Singapore permanent resident returning from Brazil, where Zika is rife, was the first known Zika case here.
Because of patient privacy rights under the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), no additional identifying information on either Mobile County case will be made available to the public. It has been linked in Brazil to more than 1,800 cases of microcephaly, a rare birth defect where babies are born with abnormally small heads and brains.
Harris said pregnant women should heed Zika warnings and not travel to affected areas, including parts of Latin America and some counties in southern Florida.
The MOH also advised sexual partners of pregnant women to practice safe sex or consider abstinence throughout the women’s pregnancy.
All travelers to the areas should take measures to avoid mosquito bites and report to airport quarantine stations or doctors if they think they might be infected with the Zika virus, it added.
Most people infected by Zika experience no symptoms, and in those who do, the symptoms are generally mild.
At the moment, there is no vaccine for the Zika virus.

Singapore said there were “ongoing local transmission” cases in Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. 19 breeding areas were detected and destroyed in the area on Saturday. They may include fever, rash, joint pain, conjunctivitis, muscle pain and headache.
