Endwell, New York, claims Little League World Series title

Maine-Endwell is the first United States team to win a Little League World Series title since 2011, and the first NY team to win since 1964.

Also in that fourth inning, with two runners aboard and two outs, Harlost snared a one-hopper above his head off the bat of Moonsung Kim and flipped to first baseman Jack Hopko to end the inning.

The Little League World Series has been dominated in recent years by teams outside of the United States: Either Japan or South Korea had won each of the last four tournaments. It’s also the first championship for a NY team since Staten Island won in 1964.

Hopko broke a scoreless tie with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth and Michael Mancini led struck out 11 in a 4-2 victory over Goodlettsville, Tenn., in the US final Saturday. Harlost then made it a 2-0 lead when he sprinted home from third base on a passed ball.

The final score Sunday night: Mid-Atlantic 2, South Korea 1.

Yoomin Lee homered in the fifth for the team from Seoul. Harlost struck out eight batters in a complete-game victory.

“Hearing my name sort of gives me confidence and just how loud it is just gives me even more confidence”, Abbadessa said. Huntington Beach, California, won in 2011 and Mid Island from Staten Island won New York’s last World Series championship.

Harlost, the next batter, singled, and Rush followed, driving in the go-ahead run with a single behind the shortstop. Panama lost to South Korea in the global championship Saturday. NY recorded all three of their hits in that decisive two-run fourth inning. They will try for their first title Sunday against the Endwell, N.Y. team.

Choi gave up six hits in six innings. “I’m really proud of my team”.

Immediately after his team’s win, manager Heesu Ji hinted that he and his players wouldn’t put much stock into the US final result.

Carlos Gonzalez had three hits for the Latin American Region champions. Edwar Bethancourth had an RBI single in the fifth.
