Police have not commented on the motive for the attack.

The Washington Post and other media outlets bury key facts about the stabbing of a Jewish man in a story Thursday, choosing not to rewrite an Associated Press headline to reflect the assailant shouted “Allahu Akbar” during the assault.

Mendel Samama, a local rabbi and good friend of Mr Levy, told The Independent the 62-year-old victim was wearing a Jewish kippa when he was targeted.

French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve contacted Gutman Friday to express his solidarity with the Jewish community of Strasbourg.

The victim has been named locally as “Mr Levy”.

According to Lyonne, Fr, Samama has claimed that the attacker thinks Jewish are part of a complot that has brought him all the awful things that had happened in his life.

In 2010, he attacked another kippa-wearing Jewish man in Strasbourg, beating him with an iron bar in a public square. Jews represent 5 percent of Strasbourg population.

Amedy Coulibaly, the shooter, killed four Jewish men on January 9.
