Arkansas RB Jonathan Williams out with foot injury

Jonathan Williams injured his foot in Arkansas’ scrimmage on Saturday. It didn’t seem significant at the time although he didn’t return.

“J. Will, I don’t exactly know what happened there at the end, but he had a tender ankle”, Bielema said.

“This is no doubt a tough moment, but I know through my faith and hard work that I will make a full recovery”, Williams said.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that Williams injury could result in the absence extending to the entire season.

For the Razorbacks, this means Alex Collins is the clear #1 on the depth chart for the time being. On the surface, it would appear that Collins’ touches will increase while freshman Rawleigh Williams and senior Kody Walker could take up some of the slack.

He also hurt his shoulder in the 2014 season opener, but played every game last season. Could he be back by then?

Unfortunately, it’s not unusual for Arkansas fans to deal with injuries to star running backs in the preseason.

Here are three things to know about Williams’ injury and how it will affect the Razorbacks. Darren McFadden almost lost his big toe during a fight outside a club in Little Rock just before camp started in 2006. Of course, Arkansas went on to win 21 games in those two seasons, so perhaps this is a good omen?

Williams, a senior who came back to school after rushing for a team-high 1,190 yards and 12 touchdowns and considered a jump to the NFL, commented on the injury in the release.

Fifth-year senior starting quarterback Brandon Allen – subject of all praise from his MVP performance ending the 2014 season in the Texas Bowl, straight through spring ball and the first eight practice days of the August preseason – completed 10 of 23 passes with some overthrown, some mistimed, some dropped, one broken up and one picked off: an interception that junior cornerback Jared Collins wrestled away from receiver Duwop Mitchell.
