US Swimmer Wanted by Brazilian Justice Gets Sponsor

Fresh off of his gold medal-winning men’s 4×200-meter freestyle relay, Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte will make an appearance at Wizard World Comic Con at the Greater Richmond Convention Center Sept. 10.

Lochte, 32, flew home to North Carolina from Brazil before police could question him about his claims that he and three teammates were robbed at gunpoint at a gas station during Rio 2016.

However, the 12-time medalist’s account quickly unraveled as Brazilian officials couldn’t find any evidence of the robbery. Lochte, however, would not be able to engage in plea negotiations unless he’s in Brazil.

Police said in their statement that the investigator in charge of the case had recommended to judges that Lochte be deposed in the United States and that a transcript be sent to the ethical commission of the International Olympic Committee (DOC). Even if he isn’t in Brazil, Lochte could still be tried in absentia.

“Wizard World comic and gaming con events bring together thousands of fans of all ages to celebrate the best in pop-fi, pop culture, movies, graphic novels, cosplay, comics, television, sci-fi, toys, video gaming, gaming, original art, collectibles, contests and more”, Wizard World stated.

Last week Lochte admitted in another interview with Lauer that he was intoxicated at the time of the incident and offered his apology. He took full-responsibility for the happenings in Rio, saying he “over-exaggerated” the incident. “And it was my immature behavior”.

Lochte lost four major sponsors early this week over the controversy, including Speedo USA and Ralph Lauren. Feigen, who initially stood by Lochte’s testimony, was not charged. The company added it would be donating $50,000 of Lochte’s sponsorship fee to a charity called Save the Children that will benefit children in Brazil. “I am confident that Pine Bros. fans will support our decision to give Ryan a second chance”. Softish Throat Drops announced a new deal with Lochte on Thursday and Lochte is supposed to appear in an ad campaign that will include the slogan “Forgiving On Your Throat”.
