Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher J.A. Happ, left, walks off the field after being relieved in the seventh inning of a baseball game against the Baltimore Orioles in Baltimore, Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2016. He took Grilli deep for a two-run homer onto the flag court to give the Orioles a 5-3 lead.

It’s not to hard to find a big hitter on the Blue Jays’ roster.

Texas has won four consecutive games and remained 7 1/2 games up on Houston in the AL West. Seattle fell to 9 1/2 back. The Orioles have lost four of five and are clinging to the second wild card.

Pearce tied the game 1-1 with a homer in the bottom half of that inning. The Jays got hot late a year ago and ran to the division title – and it’s looking like they’re starting to do something like that again. “He’s one of the top dogs out there”.

However, Pedroia is hitting.320 with 12 home runs and an.840 OPS in 132 games. The Blue Jays have won three of his four starts against the Orioles this year. Manager Buck Showalter said the team’s being careful with him because they don’t want Jones to have another issue and be sidelined for the rest of the season.

Baltimore’s Matt Wieters watches his two-run home run in the eighth inning Tuesday. Baltimore is 71-60 overall, 42-23 at home and 69-59-3 with the under. “We’re not sitting where we’re at right now without him, that’s for sure”. The reigning American League MVP sent the pitch into the right-center field stands with one out in the fourth inning. “He can pitch down with it, and his changeup is a really tough pitch”.

NATIONALS 3, PHILLIES 2: Max Scherzer didn’t allow a hit until the sixth inning and was dominant through eight as visiting Washington beat Philadelphia for the eighth straight time. The Jays’ fresh faces – mostly pitchers – have made an immediate impact only a month after the trade deadline. Trevor Bauer worked the first six innings of a combined nine-hitter in Cleveland’s second victory in seven games. It’s in our own hands. “We just got to play ball games”. Jimenez then retired the next eight batters before allowing another single to Pillar in the fifth. Troy Tulowitzki gave the Blue Jay a 2-1 lead later that inning with an RBI single.

“That’s (how) it ought to be”, Gibbons said. “Good changeup, he was hitting his spots. He threw more breaking balls I thought tonight, and they were pretty good”.

Joe Biagini came on to finish the eighth while Joaquin Benoit took care of the ninth. Benoit has yet to allow a run in 14 games (13 1/3 innings) for the Blue Jays. Navarro played with Toronto in 2013-14 before signing with the White Sox in December. Both players were designated for assignment over the weekend and cleared waivers. Right-hander Chris Tillman, on the 15-day DL with right shoulder bursitis, threw on flat ground without any setbacks.

The teams will make up the contest as part of a split doubleheader Wednesday, with the games to start at 1:10 p.m. and 6:10 p.m. MDT.

By taking the first two games of the four-game series, NY (68-64) moved ahead of slumping Miami for second place in the NL East.
