‘Transformers: The Last Knight’ Has Its King Arthur

In what marks a rather unusual casting move, Mashable is reporting that Liam Garrigan, best known for playing King Arthur on ABC’s Once Upon a Time, has joined the cast of Michael Bay’s Transformers: The Last Knight in the role of none other than King Arthur. Now in production, director Michael Bay’s fifth go with the protean anthropomorphic automaton film series is taking the world-wrecking rampages into the intriguing expositional corner of Arthurian legend.

Transformers: The Last Knight is set for release June 23, 2017. According to the publication, King Arthur actor Liam Garrigan will star in the film as, well, King Arthur. Yet, it seems that his run on Once Upon A Time as Arthur made him an easy choice to fill the Arthur role.

What will end up connecting the contemporary world of Bay’s cinematic Transformers and King Arthur in next year’s The Last Knight remains a mystery for now, but we can only hope that it involves at least a cameo appearance from Sir Wigend at some point – preferably leading the army of dragons that have been teased in promotional images.

It appears the subtitle for Transformers: The Last Knight is quite literal. The film will apparently depict Optimus Prime’s quest to revive his home planet Cybertron, which involves a magical item once conferred by ancient Transformers to of the famous wizard of Arthurian lore Merlin. There’ll be some new blood as well: Isabela Moner, Laura Haddock, Jerrod Carmichael, Gil Birmingham, and Anthony Hopkins are joining the cast for the first time, as will new Autobots like Hot Rod and Squeeks.
