It is not the first time Dwyane Wade’s family in Chicago has been affected by gun violence. Chicago police have said a fifth of the guns used in Chicago crimes are from Indiana. Aldridge was hit once in the head and once in the arm, and was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
According to another report by ABC13, the family had planned a Sunday afternoon vigil for Aldridge at the Willie Mae Morris Empowerment Center in Chicago, which was “was developed in part to assist the city of Chicago in their continued efforts to decrease the violence and fatalities by providing a safe haven and high quality programming for our youth”.
Trump issued a followup tweet about an hour later, saying Wade and his family were “in my thoughts and prayers”. When asked about it, the Republican vice presidential candidate instead brought up failing schools in Chicago and his running mate Donald Trump’s pledge to create jobs. She was killed while pushing her baby in a stroller on the way to register her other children for elementary school. He tweeted about his cousin’s death Friday night.
“Her life was cut short”, Johnson said. “She was taken away from us”.
“These two offenders are the prime example”, Johnson said”. Police are now working to hash out specifics and verify stories, he said.
Nykea Aldridge’s mother, Diann Aldridge, talked about the confusion and anguish felt by the children she leaves behind.
“If you have a magic bullet to stop the violence anywhere – not just in Chicago, but in America – please share it with us”, he said.
But in the wake of her personal loss, she remained determined. “I miss her. A life is gone”.
According to the Chicago Tribune, “A total of 67 people were shot over the weekend and 11 of them died”. Wade, 34, who born in Chicago and raised in Robbins in the South Suburbs, discussed last month at a press conference after he signed a two-year $47.5 million contract with the Chicago Bulls the dream of returning to play for his hometown team.
“This is something that didn’t start today; this is something that isn’t going to end tomorrow”, he said.
Donald Trump said that tragedies like the death of National Basketball Association star Dwyane Wade’s cousin were one of the reasons that African-Americans will vote for the Republican presidential nominee.
He later tweeted his condolences to Wade and his family.
