Antonio Brown restructures deal with Steelers

As for Brown, he seems pretty happy with the restructured deal.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have promised to do right by All-Pro wide receiver Antonio Brown and the franchise took a major step in fulfilling that guarantee on Wednesday.

In the past three seasons there hasn’t been a player more productive than Brown, or underpaid for that matter too. He tied for the National Football League lead last season with 136 catches, was second in receiving yards (1,834) and scored 10 touchdowns. Brown finished behind only Julio Jones in receiving yards past year and led all receivers in 2014 with 1,698 yards.

The move brings Brown’s salary to $10.25 million this year, according to a source of Schefter’s.

The minor tweaks are becoming somewhat of a yearly tradition for the Steelers and their breakout star.

Last year, the Steelers restructured Brown’s contract in a similar fashion and it included him being paid forward $2 million of his 2016 base salary.

The reworked contract doesn’t lock up Brown for any additional years as his contract will still expire in 2017.

“In a reworked deal, Steelers gave Antonio Brown $8.975 million signing bonus and $1.25 million base salary this year – to make it $10.25 million”, Schefter tweeted.

That was a lot for a sixth-round pick, but Brown has proven to be worth every penny. Outside of Calvin Johnson, no receiver has put up as many yards in two seasons as Brown did in 2014 and 2015.
