“The couple had hired the aircraft to take them on a night time flight around the city of New Orleans”, Lakefront Airport Director Ben Morris said. Morris said that the chances of finding survivors hours after a crash like that into the water are “grim” but the Coast Guard has not given any time frame for when they intend to call off the search and rescue efforts for the two missing men.

On Saturday evening a small Cessna airplane carrying three passengers crashed into Lake Pontchartrain extremely close to the runway of New Orleans’s Lakefront Airport and on Sunday afternoon recovery crews were still out in their numbers in the area. The Cessna aircraft was heading to Lakefront Airport, about 10 miles from downtown.
“It’s going to be moved to a secure facility in which they’ll do a detailed wreckage layout and examine it further”, Weiss said.
The victims who died in the plane crash have not been identified.
Wreckage was pulled from Lake Pontchartrain Tuesday morning after a fatal plane crash on Saturday.
Federal officials are investigating the crash to determine the cause. Along with the Coast Guard’s vessels, the police department’s dive team has been using sonar technology to aid in the search. Her medical condition was not immediately known.
Morris held little hope that the two men survived. The group had seen an emergency flare shoot up from the lake around 8:45 while they were dining, and watched Coast Guard boats rush toward the scene as ambulances arrived.

The friends usually take a boat to the dockside restaurant for dinner, but not Saturday night.
