City striker Aguero charged by FA with violent conduct

City’s next game is against United at Old Trafford, possibly the most eagerly anticipated match of the season. The FA has stated that the incident involved Winston Reid in the 76th minute.

The FA can take retrospective disciplinary action in incidents that are not included in the referee’s official match report.

He faces a three-game ban if found guilty, which would rule him out of City’s trip to Manchester United on September 10, a home game with Bournemouth and a trip to Swansea City in the League Cup.

“Sergio Aguero has been charged for an alleged act of violent conduct that was not seen by the match officials but caught on video”, the FA have confirmed in an official statement.

Aguero has until Wednesday evening to respond to the charge, which comes after he appeared to swing an elbow at West Ham defender Winston Reid during City’s 3-1 win in the Premier League on Sunday.

A panel of three former referees reviewed video footage of the incident and agreed unanimously that Aguero should be charged.

“He has until 6pm on Wednesday 31 August to reply”.

The Ivory Coast global has been deemed surplus requirements by new City coach Pep Guardiola and will spend 2016-17 out on loan at Mark Hughes’ Stoke.

Sergio Aguero’s participation in the Manchester derby was thrown into further doubt on Monday after the striker withdrew from the Argentina squad because of a calf injury.
