Kaepernick “Should Find a Country That Works Better For Him”

When San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick chose to sit down during the national anthem on August 26 to protest inequality and police brutality, detractors immediately began to call him entitled. My 12 yr old, 6, 3, husband or Colin, that equates to not loving them? Ha!

“He’s just speaking out (but) he used a platform that many Americans don’t agree with. If it’s not done violently, at least he should be heard”.

As for the National Anthem controversy, Kelly said the team is staying focused on the game.

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump was among the latest to join in criticism of Kaepernick, describing the player’s protest as “a awful thing”. In explaining his decision yesterday, Kaepernick criticized both presidential candidates, calling Trump an “outright racist” and implying Hillary Clinton would be in prison for her email scandal if she “were any other person”. Hall of Fame running back Jim Brown, a civil rights activist during his career, told NFL Network that Kaepernick makes “all the sense in the world” and that he stands behind him “100 percent”. I wholeheartedly disagree. Not that he wants to speak out about a very important issue. The NFL said he would be permitted to do so. “I am with him 100 percent”.

While we certainly certainly acknowledge Mr. Kaepernick’s first amendment right to remain seated during the national anthem, as inappropriate as that may be, we will not stand by while he attacks police officers in this country with statements such as, “People are on paid leave while people of color are killed.”

“When you talk to our players, they’re focused on the 2016 season and how good a team the San Francisco 49ers can be”, Kelly said.

San Diego has a massive military population.

Kaepernick’s stand temporarily inspired the Philadelphia Eagles’ rookie linebacker Myke Tavarres to also sit out the national anthem.

In fact, after the camera crews left, Kaepernick amiably hung around his locker and chatted informally with several of us, confirming for me that he has been a vegan for nine months and saying he feels great because of it. That’s something that this country stands for freedom, liberty and justice for all.
