Well, if you were a fan of McGregor you had to love seeing him pushed to the brink and battle back to win a decision over his rival.

The future for Diaz is a little less clear.

The fact is that the pre-fight hype around the weigh-ins and press conferences this week now looks a little contrived, as both men hugged it out after the fight.

The Californian took McGregor down with only seconds remaining, but McGregor held on to win the bout on points.

“I came to this fight worse off than last time”. “Conor’s going to defend his title or give it up”.

Heading into the final round Diaz was desperately trying for a submission as blood was cleary impacting on his vision, but McGregor had other ideas as he reverted back to his earlier tactics of landing solid leg kicks on his opponent.

“I want number three”.

During and after the fight, social media was blowing up with calls for McGregor-Diaz 3. I was just talking to him.

Diaz’s endurance was the difference in the first fight. “The interim 145-pound champion is a man that I KO’d in 13 seconds”.

McGregor was awarded the majority decision victory after starting strong before Diaz roared back into the contest in the final round.

Many people would love to watch McGregor and Diaz fight for a third time right away. If they want to set it up as soon as possible, let’s do it. You’re not going to see me until then.

McGregor took the fight to the American from the get go, but the Californian, bloodied and beaten, showed the resilience to dominate a tiring McGregor as the bout went on. “I’m not making excuses, but you should have finished me off”, he said, directing his remarks at McGregor.

“Now I gotta listen to this f-cking dude (McGregor) talk again, forever”. After McGregor exacting his revenge on Diaz, he is clinging to the thought of doing a trilogy to determine who is the best fighter between him and Diaz.
