On Tuesday, a crowd of excited fans lined up for hours to see the premiere of the Madame Tussauds’ wax statue of Selena Quintanilla Perez in Hollywood.

The life of Selena, an artist who released five albums between 1989 (“Selena”) and 1995 (“Dreaming of you“), has been chronicled in half a dozen documentaries and a 1997 film that starred American actress and singer Jennifer Lopez.

“At Madame Tussauds, our figures represent icons who have made a significant impact on our culture”, said museum general manager Colin Thomas.

Madame Tussauds’ waxwork of Selena Quintanilla features thigh-high purple boots.

“Her influence has transcended generations and her passionate fans continue to be inspired by her to this day”, he added.

Though the figure is missing Selena’s iconic smile, encased by her signature red lips, her style is true to the one that graced stages throughout the early 1990’s as she rose to fame and embarked on a career crossover. Her brother, A.B. Quintanilla, explained there was a problem with Selena’s outfit before that concert, but she took some steps to make it look like she planned the design. The concert was recorded for her 1993 album Selena Live!

The late Queen of Tejano music was honored Tuesday at a ceremony where her family and former husband joined fans to reveal the statue, valued at $350,000. Now, the same will be done for her in Hollywood.
