NFL Analyst Rodney Harrison Offends Kaepernick Saying ‘He’s Not Black’

When you walk in a grocery store, and you might have $2,000 or $3,000 in your pocket and you go up in to a Foot Locker and they’re looking at you like you about to steal something.

Kaepernick is multiracial and had an unconventional upbringing.

‘I said his heart is in the right place, but even with what he’s doing, he still doesn’t understand that we face as a black man or people of color, that’s what I’m saying’.

Kaepernick, who has been refusing to stand to salute a country “that oppresses black people and people of color”, is biracial, with a biologically white mother and black father, and was raised by a white couple after being adopted. In addressing the Kaepernick situation, Harrison suggested that Kaepernick isn’t black.

Not two months after the death of the greatest American sports hero of the 20th century, Muhammad Ali, many seem to have forgotten that Ali claimed that title for his refusal to serve in what he viewed as an unjust war in Vietnam, at the expense of his own career and, in the eyes of many Americans at the time, his patriotism. Most people agreed that he had gone too far with his comments.

I saw a great article in Esquire magazine that gave some great perspective on how Colin Kaepernick’s stance wasn’t much different than Muhammad Ali’s.

Harrison continued his thoughts on Twitter about the matter.

NBC News reports that Kaepernick once said, “My racial heritage is something I want people to be well aware of”. His statements weren’t veiled or guarded. I want black kids to see me and think: “‘Okay, he’s carrying himself as a black man, and that’s how a black man should carry himself'”.

If you’re not convinced, go listen to the audio.

We all have opinions. “And I’m not just saying writing a check, but just sitting against the national anthem, you’re offending a lot of people that sacrificed and died, man, basically for the freedoms that we have right now”.
