Cal defeats UH in 2016 football season-opener
Senior quarterback Davis Webb passed for four touchdowns and rushed for one in his California debut and junior receiver Chad Hansen had the best game of his career as the Golden Bears rolled to a 51-31 nonconference victory over Hawaii in college football’s season opener at Sydney, Australia, on Saturday afternoon.

The Rainbow Warriors began Friday’s game with an onside kick against the Bears.
The Rainbow Warriors figured to be strong on the ground behind an experienced offensive line, but the surprise was Diocemy Saint Juste, who missed all of last season with an injury, burst onto the college football scene with 118 yards on just 14 carries and a score.
California Golden Bears’ Chad Hansen, right, catches a touchdown pass over Hawaii Rainbow Warriors’ Jalen Rogers during the opening game of the US college football season at Sydney’s Olympic stadium in Sydney, Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016.
In a 51-31 win over Hawaii, Webb completed 38 of 54 passes for 441 yards and four touchdowns.
California led 17-14 at the end of the first quarter before pulling away with three consecutive touchdowns. The running game was also solid as Khalfani Muhammad made the most of his 10 carries, running for 96 yards and a score. “He (Rolovich) will get Hawaii going”.
Cal coach Sonny Dykes said it was a good starting point for his team.
A standout at Texas Tech in 2013 (2,718 yards, 20 TD, 9 INT) and 2014 (2,539 yards, 24 TD, 13 INT), Webb would eventually fall into the shadows with the introduction of Patrick Mahomes. Not Hawaii’s way on Saturday.
While Cal’s offense looked like it picked up where it left off last season, unfortunately so did the defense. The Golden Bears will head home and get some rest as they don’t play next weekend, but travel south to face San Diego State on September 11.
