$1 million bond for third suspect in girl’s slaying

But officials acknowledged Friday that Gonzales was not being monitored by probation officers or tested for drugs as mandated by a judge previous year.

It was far from the truth, according to Albuquerque police. Martens reportedly did not have a police record before participating in the homicide of her daughter, other than a traffic violation.

Authorities found the girl’s body in a bathtub in an apartment Wednesday.

Kelley, who is Gonzales’ cousin, was the last to appear in court.

“What happened to this little girl is…”

With the fire alarm blaring, they busted in the front door and searched the smoke-filled apartment for Victoria Martens.

According to the Police, the girl, identified as Victoria Martens, was first injected with methamphetamine, then sexually assaulted, strangled, stabbed and then dismembered.

Kelley was booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center Friday after treatment at the hospital for a broken leg from jumping from a balcony in an attempt to elude police.

Martens was charged in court Thursday with kidnapping and child abuse resulting in death.

While the girl’s mother has no online record of an arrest in New Mexico, she told police Kelley had been released from jail just days before Victoria’s death.

The third suspect in the horrific death of a 10-year-old Albuquerque girl has made her first court appearance. “Today, I speak for the children and the voice of Victoria”.

She pleaded no contest to conspiracy to commit criminal sexual penetration and was sentenced to three years in prison minus almost a year for time served. Officer Tanner Tixier said in a news release Wednesday, Aug. 24, that charges are being filed against Gonzales, Michelle Martens, and Jessica Kelley. Police officers allege that when her remains were found, both of her arms were severed and her left leg was also nearly completely detached from the rest of her body. The girl’s mother, 35-year-old Michelle Martens, her 31-year-old boyfriend, Fabian Gonzales, and his 31-year-old cousin, Jessica Kelley, are facing charges.

Jessica Kelley remained silent Saturday morning as a judge read the charges she faces in the killing of Victoria Martens. Gonzales has been charged with the same, in addition to child rape.

Both Gonzales and Kelley have arrest resords, it was said.

Following the news that 10-year-old Victoria Martens had been so brutally and senselessly tortured and murdered, the local Albuquerque community came together to hold multiple vigils.

Jacobson said she was prohibited by law from disclosing whether the agency had received any other complaints related to Victoria, described by neighbors from her blue-collar apartment complex as a seemingly happy and sociable girl who loved to swim and dance. Judge Schultz called the case one of the worst he had seen.

Murdered 10-year-old Victoria Martens had also recently begun 4th grade at Petroglyph Elementary School, which left Albuquerque public schools scrambling to explain to her classmates what had happened to their young friend.

Gonzales denied that he was the person who killed Victoria Martens. We cherish and protect our students and, like the rest of Albuquerque, are having a hard time wrapping our heads around the fact that someone could treat one of them so horrifically.
