White House to reach goal of taking in 10000 Syrian refugees Monday
10,000th Syrian refuge – The United States should welcome Monday the 10,000th Syrian refugee in one year, one month before the date set by President Barack Obama, the White House said.

President Barack Obama set the goal last fall, as the migrant crisis in Europe and the Middle East was hitting critical mass last summer, and leaders in the worldwide community were calling on the U.S. and other world powers to do more to help the growing displaced population.
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and many republican lawmakers have opposed the President’s efforts over fears terrorists might be posing as Syrian refugees.
The Syrian refugees admitted to the United States are chosen from United Nations camps and then vetted by USA security and intelligence agencies.
White House press secretary Josh Earnest said Obama hopes the US will “expand our ambition” to admit more refugees.
But the Obama administration’s decision to increase the flow of refugees has not yet directly impacted Alabama. The country accepted about half a million Syrian refugees in 2015, and expects to accept about 300,000 in 2016. After the medical and security screening, the homeland security officer could approve the refugee’s application to be resettled in the US.
At least 106 refugees from Syria have settled in the Bay State, according to data from the U.S. State Department’s Refugee Processing Center.
New Syrian refugees are expected to come to Charlottesville over the next few days and the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is preparing to welcome them to town.
In addition to resettling some of the most vulnerable refugees, we have always focused on providing humanitarian assistance and protection to refugees in the places to which they have fled, so they can return home when the conflict ends.
MI has taken in nearly four times as many refugees as California, which has four times Michigan’s population, the Times reported. The family will head to San Diego as part of a year-long program to resettle 10,000 Syrian refugees in the United States. She said the USA has committed to working with the worldwide community to increase funding for humanitarian assistance and double the number of refugees afforded the opportunity to resettle. The process typically takes 12 months to 18 months and includes in-person interviews and a review of biographical and biometric information.
