The French club have been linked with Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli this summer, and the Nice chief made a decision to try and move the deal along on Saturday.

Zamparini has revealed he has spoken to the Liverpool star’s influential agent Mino Raiola and Balotelli about the prospective deal.

The Italian giants decided against making the move permanent and while a number of clubs had shown interest in Balotelli this summer, his wage demands had seen no moves materialise.

However, Balotelli’s presence in France indicates that the striker is confident the deal will eventually be pushed over the line.

The striker started out at Inter, moving on through Manchester City, Milan, Liverpool and back to the Rossoneri again.

“It’s a very hard operation, but we’re trying”.

“We think that Palermo could be just the right place for him to relaunch his career”, said Sporting Director Daniele Faggiano. “Mario immediately confessed he’d be happy to come to Palermo”.

Liverpool will have to subsidise his £90,000-a-week wages or persuade him to take a pay cut to move to the Sicilian capital.

“This would be an opportunity for him, but he’d need to make a sacrifice to relaunch his career on the worldwide market, at his level”.
