Two small planes collided in midair Sunday near an airport in southern San Diego County, killing three people, authorities said.

Crews extinguished several brush fires where the planes came down.
According to the officials, four bodies were found in the wreckage.
One of the aircraft was a twin-engine Sabreliner and the other a single-engine Cessna 172.
Schuler said four people were killed as a result of the crash, though that number may change as officials continue their investigation.
Crashes happened at 11:04 a.m. and a report from a CHP officer to dispatchers stated, “Start FAA”.
The crash caused a two-acre brush fire that has been put out, Schuler said. A Chula Vista firefighter was taken to the hospital with possible heat-related issues as the temperature soared above 100 degrees.
The collision was near Brown Field, a busy general aviation facility about one mile north of the worldwide boundary and about 8 miles northeast of San Ysidro.

The FAA and NTSB are investigating, and the number of people aboard and the conditions of passengers were not known.
