The last win for a NY team was 1964 when the Mid-Island Little League of Staten Island defeated Obispado Little League of Monterrey, Mexico. He later came around to score the first run of the game on an RBI bloop single by Conner Rush. One batter later, Harlost scored on the passed ball to put the US team up 2-0.

South Korea struck back with a solo home run from Yoomin Lee in the fifth inning, but the global victor was unable to rally further. He also scored in the fourth inning.

South Korea cut the lead in half the following inning when pinch-hitter Yoomin Lee drove a pitch over the right-centerfield wall for a home run.

“From there on, I pretty much knew we were going to go a long way”, Hopko said.

NY players Mancini, Hopko, Billy Dundon and Jude Abbadessa appeared in the postgame media room and all used the same word – “Amazing”.

The president congratulated the team on their win, and wished them good luck for Sunday. After a bunt single, a fielder’s choice, popout and walk put the tying run in scoring position and with the fans chanting “USA, USA”, Harlost struck out Minho Choi with a curveball to end it.
