Klopp finds optimistic view for Liverpool’s missed chances

“Daniel Sturridge is a wonderfully skilled player, but I made the decision based on the kind of defending that was important for Tottenham”, insisted Klopp. They had chances to win the match but we played much better.

A forward who springs into action only when his own team have the ball is a passenger Klopp is not prepared to carry, at least not away to top opposition.

One club even indicated that they would be willing to pay in excess of £20 million for Ings, the source added.

“It is true we wanted to play a little bit long but we started to make some mistakes”.

“But, of course, we are all human beings and in the analysis afterwards when we saw it again we could not believe how big the opportunities would have been with one more pass, and that was hard to take”, said Klopp.

Wijnaldum was heavily linked with a move to White Hart Lane before arriving on Anfield and the player himself has opened up about the chain of events that led to him becoming a Liverpool player during an in-depth interview Dutch magazine Voetbal International. Klopp expects his players to exert wave after wave of pressure, with Philippe Coutinho and Mane either side of Firmino, and behind them Adam Lallana and Georginio Wijnaldum. We had wonderful moments with passing and all that stuff, the direction in our game. “Hopefully we can make different lineups for different games”.

We’re a few rounds in to the season and we’ve started to seen the glimpses on what we have ahead of us. But it is about doing it against teams who aren’t going to play against us.

“He (Sturridge) has now made three games”.

Eric Dier is challenged by James Milner of Liverpool. “If he thinks that is the best thing for the team, than I will do it”.

“It’s more learning the position from training and watching videos after the game, looking at distances from the centre-half, getting out to the wide man quickly, things like that”.

Since the Suarez-Sturridge partnership that produced over 45 league goals ended 3 seasons ago, Liverpool haven’t come close to landing the title and that lack of a quality finisher could be their undoing this season. I was impressed with what he had to say.
