Mexican president, Trump make statements after meeting

The meeting, which Trump and his advisers began considering after an invitation from Pena Nieto last week, will be Trump’s first official interaction with a foreign leader since he began his presidential campaign more than a year ago, stirring up frequent controversy both at home and overseas.

Pena Nieto has publicly voiced scepticism about Trump.

Trump’s campaign surrogates in recent days have slammed the media for focusing on those 11 million people, instead touting Trump’s commitment to first deporting undocumented immigrants who have committed crimes in the United States and his plan to build a wall on the border with Mexico, and make that country pay for it. And they send the bad ones over, because they don’t want to pay for them.

“We have to listen to the concerns that working people, our forgotten working people, have over the record pace of immigration and its impact on their jobs, wages, housing, schools, tax bills and general living conditions”, Trump said.

“Be part of the campaign of a candidate dedicated to insulting us?” Both Barack Obama and Mitt Romney made trips to bolster their foreign policy credentials in 2008 and 2012.

“Let’s hope that. he sees that he was really wrong about what he said”, Herrera said of Trump. This trip was announced Tuesday night. “No one benefits when human smugglers and drug traffickers prey on innocent people, when cartels commit acts of violence, when illegal weapons and cash flow from the United States into Mexico”.

Trump’s style, however, is more impulsive and unpredictable.

What was supposed to be a private meeting between Trump and the National Hispanic Advisory Council last week ended in leaked reports that Trump was considering legalizing undocumented immigrants.

“It’s embarrassing that the president has invited someone who hates Mexicans to our country”, said Olga Ruiz, a 42-year-old professor.

The trip was also unusual for not including his traveling press corps and coming against the advice of United States diplomats. And a trip to Mexico followed by a speech on immigration can’t undo the damage he’s already done to political discourse. “We did discuss the wall”. Trump is trying to close the gap in his own polls against Clinton.

“At the beginning of the conversation with Donald Trump I made it clear that Mexico will not pay for the wall”, Pena Nieto said in a tweet after not mentioning the issue during their joint news conference.

CNN reported Trump arrived in Mexico City by airplane and was taken by helicopter to the presidential palace. “He just dressed them up a little in less incendiary language”. But the campaign also acknowledged the risks of the trip. While he and Pena Nieto talked about the wall, Trump said they didn’t discuss who would pay for a cost of construction pegged in the billions.

“You don’t understand”, Barbosa said, directing a tweet at Pena Nieto, “the presence of (Trump) in Mexico at your invitation is behavior unworthy of the Mexican government”.

Hillary Clinton has not yet said whether she will accept the Mexican president’s invite.

“That’s how Mussolini got in, that’s how Hitler got in”.

Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto is challenging Republican presidential nominee DonaldTrump’s characterization of the situation on the U.S. “He’s a Mexican. We’re building a wall between here and Mexico”. “It was only a call for reflection and for recognition, so that we bear in mind what we have achieved and the great deal still to achieve”.

Guadalajara Mayor Enrique Alfaro Ramirez blamed Nieto for issuing the invitation: “A person who openly incites hatred, racism, violence and even war, should not be invited into our country”. Fox saved those for Trump’s proposal to build a wall along the USA southern border and his insistence that Mexico foot the bill. Several Twitter users told Trump to “stay home” or to “take Pena Nieto with you as our gift”. The inclusion of Trump puzzled many in Mexico, who said it wasn’t clear why their own unpopular president would agree to meet with someone so widely disliked in his country. “We’ll see if Mr. Trump is as warmly received”.

“You don’t build a coalition by insulting our friends or acting like a loose cannon”.

“Secretary Clinton last met with President Pena Nieto in Mexico in 2014 and our campaign is in a regular dialogue with the Mexican government officials”, the aide added. “He fooled him (Pena Nieto) … he’s using him to try to recover lost votes”.

Anderson said Trump’s memo also leaves unaddressed how normal financial transactions across borders would be affected and whether there would be an overly aggressive federal intrusion into the growing number of financial transactions that take place over the internet. “We don’t even know what we’re getting”, Trump said in an interview, further clarifying his initial remarks.
