Donald Trump to give speech on illegal immigration on 31 August

Whitman was the national finance co-chair of Republican New Jersey candidate Gov. Chris Christie’s presidential campaign before he dropped out and endorsed Trump. And they didn’t bother defending his initial response Saturday to the killing of a mother as she walked her baby on a Chicago street.

Questioned on whether leaving key details on immigration policy unclear so late in the election was a problem, Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus demurred, saying: “I just don’t speak for Donald Trump”. He’s been repeatedly accused of racism, including by members of his own party when he said a judge should recuse himself from a Trump University case due to his Mexican heritage.

The very goal of surrogates is to speak for and back up their presidential nominee.

Trump’s signature hardline approach on the issue of immigration, which capitalized on deportation and his plan to build up a wall between the borders of US and Mexico, took a vacillating turn after meeting with Hispanic leaders August 20. Any discussion of inconsistencies or potentially unpresidential tweeting, Pence and others suggested, reflected media focus on the wrong issue.

Trump vowed during the GOP primary to deport millions of undocumented immigrants with a “deportation force”.

For more than a week now, as he’s tried to shine the spotlight on his rival, Trump has appeared to wrestle with one of his signature proposals: A pledge to expel everyone living in the USA illegally with the help of a “deportation force”.

“I don’t think he’s in any better or worse (shape) than the average person that goes and exercises every single day”, Trump’s doctor, Harold Bornstein, said to NBC when asked about the candidate’s health. That, he said, “is a subject for the future”.

It’s been a long and sometimes puzzling journey to this point for Trump, who defeated 16 Republican opponents while promising to be the toughest on illegal immigration.

The Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee (RNC) have insisted the plan is consistent with his previous stances and will not include an amnesty for those residing in the USA illegally. But who he considers a criminal remained unclear.

Ms. Clinton has a five point advantage against Mr. Trump in the polls released by PPP (D), leading by 48 to 43 per cent.

Hillary Clinton is more unpopular than ever, according to a new ABC News/Washington Post poll. He estimates his support level now to be at 10 percent in the polls the Commission on Presidential Debates is monitoring. If anything, his brash nature has alienated him from some of his original supporters and from many undecided voters who were not originally comfortable with either Trump or Clinton.

Four hours later, the Republican presidential candidate extended condolences to the family.

Trump sent out a modified version of the message to his followers, tweeting: “Her rallies are held in (blank) & she still has room” instead.
