“While this investigation is ongoing, DOH still believes that ongoing active transmissions are only occurring in the two previously identified areas in Wynwood and Miami Beach”, Scott said. The state is also investigating cases of locally transmitted infections in Pinellas and Palm Beach counties that were confirmed this week. Statewide, Florida has reported 523 travel-related Zika cases and 70 infections involving pregnant women.
While the virus is primarily transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, it can also pass from one person to another during sex.
The biggest threat is Zika poses is to pregnant women. She said none of those cases resulted in babies with microcephaly, a birth defect that causes abnormally small heads in infants.
The CDC is advising that all pregnant women should be asked about travel to Zika-infested areas during routine prenatal visits, if so, they are advised to get tested for Zika.
The Zika virus is most common in Latin America, the Caribbean and in some Pacific islands, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“It is important to understand that this case is travel associated and there is no evidence that Zika is being transmitted in our area”, the notice stated.
A team of experts across several disciplines at CDPH is working with local public health departments, vector control agencies and the medical community to ensure that California is responding aggressively and appropriately to the emerging threat of Zika virus.

Scott has allocated $26.2 million in emergency state funds to fight the spread of the virus in Florida.
