The shelter has animals of all ages, Wood said, though sometimes older cats and older, larger dogs are harder to place. Some became homeless when their owners died.

Additionally, through Best Friends’ annual Strut Your Mutt charity walk, the organization has helped local and regional humane organizations and shelters raise close to $800,000.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity to showcase shelter animals and find them forever homes”, said Cherie Wachter, spokeswoman for theHumane Society of Broward County.”It’s going to be a great day for animals not only at our shelter but at shelters all over the country”. Therese Hoofnagle, Little Elm Animal Services Supervisor, said this will be the shelter’s first year to participate, and they are excited to be involved.
A nationwide initiative, Clear the Shelters aims to help find homes for animals waiting to be adopted. “Anything we can do to promote adoption rather than purchasing animals, we want to be on board for”.
Shelters across San Diego County are participating in the Clear the Shelters event Saturday and all adoption fees will be waived.
There will be thousands of adoptable pets available across Tarrant and Dallas counties on August 15.
Last year, around 38 shelters participated in the event, generating an estimated 2,200 adopted animals.
Saturday August 15, go to one of your local shelters, adopt an animal and upload a picture using #ClearTheShelters.
The shelter is posting photos of its cats and kittens on its Facebook page and adoption applications may be downloaded, filled out and brought in on Saturday.
The biggest and most exciting adoption event is coming to a South Florida shelter near you!

“Nearly everyone that came last year thoroughly enjoyed themselves and each person that attended was able to be a part of the huge success”, he added.
