Beyonce accepts the Female Video of the Year award from U.S. Olympic gymnasts Madison Kocian, Aly Raisman, Simone Biles and Laurie Hernandez during the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards in NY, U.S., August 28, 2016. “All my adult life, I’ve looked up to her even though she’s younger than me”, said Drake. I have to thank you guys for supporting me over and over.

“I’d like to thank my handsome daughter and incredible husband for all of their support”, she said as she claimed the evening’s final award.

Drake made Rihanna feel like the only girl in the world Sunday night.

Stars who’ve won the award multiple times include Eminem (‘The Real Slim Shady” and “Without Me”), Rihanna (‘Umbrella” and “We Found Love’) and now Beyoncé (‘Single Ladies’ and “Formation’).

Rihanna thanked her fans, family and her hometown for all of the support over the past 11 years since her 2005 VMA debut. He also talked about his “Famous” video and insisted that the flesh-filled video “was an expression of our now”. The music video, which shows him looking frail in bed with bandaged eyes, was released just days before the icon’s January 10 death.

On a night when women ruled, Britney Spears returned to the VMA stage for the first time in a decade, and Rihanna performed four times to mark her lifetime achievement award.

In one of several odes to the recent Olympic Games, Michael Phelps said he’s been inspired by hip-hop music before introducing Future, who Phelps said he listened to before swimming and making the grimace that went viral.
