Disney California Adventure Tower of Terror closing January 2

To mark both Halloween and the closing of the classic attraction, Disneyland is hosting one last promotion.

The scary free-fall Hollywood Tower Hotel elevator – in The Twilight Zone – opened at the California Adventure Park in 2004.

Those who undertake that bone-chilling twist on an already frightening ride will certainly remember the experience far into the future when the “Guardians of the Galaxy” ride is torn down to make way for whatever is the next shiny new thing. In a one-for-one swap, the theme park will be trading Rod Serling for Chris Pratt, as the attraction is slated to become a Guardians Of The Galaxy ride.

The California amusement park is holding a series of special events to celebrate the Tower of Terror before it ends.

As the tower counts down its final days, Disney will offer a series of promotions, beginning with one called Late Check-Out: From Sept. 9 through October 31, visitors will be able to experience the ride in complete darkness.

Disneyland will also have special merchandise, food, and photo-stops in California Adventure to honor Tower of Terror, so get yourself to the park ASAP so you can snag these yourself. However, it will be particularly poignant this year because The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror will be permanently closed on January 2, 2017.

There are now no known plans to replace similar Hollywood Towers at Disney World in Florida, Tokyo DisneySea and Disneyland Paris.
