Ryan Lochte dropped by first major sponsor since robbery debacle
Lochte said he respected Speedo’s decision and thanked the company for the opportunities given over the years.

In addition to that, clothing company Ralph Lauren and Japan’s Airweave also made statements “after a full consideration”.
In April, the company had named the Olympic swimmer as the global brand ambassador for its Gentle Laser Hair Removal system.
Syneron-Candela, the parent of Gentle Hair Removal, also reportedly issued a statement ending their sponsorship of Lochte.
Speedo, the largest and longest endorsement deal for Lochte, severed ties with the disgraced swimmer on Monday in a tweet to the public.
The 12-times Olympic medalist, Ryan Lochte, was dropped by four sponsors on Monday after his incident in the Rio Olympic Games.
An Airweave spokeswoman said Monday, “Airweave is a proud sponsor of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Teams and our dedication to athletic achievement is unwavering”.
He has since apologized for embellishing his version of events.
Ralph Lauren said its endorsement agreement with Lochte was specifically for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
But Lochte already had fewer sponsors this Olympics than he did in the 2012 games in London. Then he gets caught lying about being robbed at gunpoint, and now he’s facing possible criminal charges.
Following the incident, Lochte flew back to the United States, while the other three – Gunnar Bentz, Jack Conger and Jimmy Feigen – stayed in Brazil. Conger and Bentz were allowed to leave Rio after admitting to authorities that Lochte had made the whole thing up, while Feigen was allowed to leave after making an $11,000 donation to Reaction Institute, a local charity.
The 32-year-old Lochte initially claimed that he was robbed at gunpoint, although police declared the swimmers vandalized a bathroom after a night of partying before armed guards confronted them and asked for payment for the damage. Ralph Lauren also said it would not renew his contract. But I know what I did was wrong and I know I learned my lesson.
“And that’s something I’m going to have to live with”, Lochte said. Video surveillance emerged showing the athletes getting into a confrontation with armed security guards over alleged vandalism at the gas station when their taxi pulled over to let them use the restroom.
In his most recent interview with NBC, which was taped in NY and began airing this past weekend, Lochte said he “very intoxicated” and takes “full responsibility” for his behavior.
