Paes, Bopanna bag contrasting wins at US Open
It was a good day at the office at the US Open for Indian tennis players as Leander Paes, Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza won their respective doubles and mixed doubles encounters at Flushing Meadows on Thursday. Sania, who had recently parted ways with Martina Hingis after a successful stint, is pairing with Czech Barbora Strycova in this tournament.

In mixed doubles, veteran leander Paes and Swiss partner Martina Hingis beat U.S. pair Sachia Vickery and Frances Tiafoe to enter second round. In the Singles, world number one Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Angelique Kerber and Garbine Muguruza are among those who will play their second round matches today. Canada’s Raonic, the fifth seed, struggled physically as American qualifier Ryan Harrison won 6-7 (4-7) 7-5 7-5 6-1. Stepanek-Zimonjic employed all kind of tactics to claim the second set in a tie-break to level the match. However, they started comfortably to win the first set 6-3.
Bopanna and his partner managed to convert four out of eight break points. With this win, both of them moved to the second round, where they will meet US-New Zealand combination of Brian Baker and Marcus Daniell for a spot in the pre-quarterfinals. They won 65 out of the total 116 points played.
