The programme – which draws heavily on supernatural thrillers from the 1980s – received critical acclaim and nearly instant cult status upon its release in July this year.
Though the Duffers thought about starting the story a full decade after the events of season one, they made a decision to stay close to what we saw unfold.
Stranger Things: Season 2 will premiere on Netflix in 2017.
Matt and Ross Duffer will return to helm Stranger Things 2, which will take place a year after the first season, in 1984. Season 2 will continue on in Hawkins, Ind.in 1985, although it will also feature a location outside of the small town.
The Duffer Brother have previously stated that they do want to explore more about the Upside Down, and with so little of this world featured in season 1, the directions in which they can take this are endless.

Secondly: rejoice. As has been rumored for weeks now, Netflix confirmed today that yes, Virginia, there is a second season.
“I don’t think we ever thought anthology”, Ross Duffer told EW. “That’s something we batted around from the very beginning”. Rumor has it, Steve wasn’t originally set to have that story arc, but Keery was so delightful on set that the Duffer Brothers made a decision to keep him on the series. But fans still have a lot of open questions about where the plot will go. Just yesterday, it was announced that Shannon Purser would be joining the cast of Riverdale, but she wasn’t too busy to post the Season 2 poster and give a shoutout to her cast members.

“We kind of hint about where we might go at the end of the season”, Matt Duffer said. They told a great story the first time around and left just enough things dangling so they can tell even more stories in the future.
